Wednesday, The New York Times published a fascinating article dealing with Michelle Obama’s family history from slavery to First Lady of the United States.  I highly recommend that you read it, click here for the story.  Two of the interesting features of the article is a paper trail that shows original documents of Michelle’s ancestors being willed to successive generations.  Some of the documents have a yellow box that allows you to get detailed information of what each page says.  The other feature is an interactive family tree with some narration included, click here for that page. I bring this to your attention not only because it is a good read but to ask the question, what exactly do we know about ourselves and our family histories?

One of the most horrific practices of the slave trade was the practice of separating the slaves in the indoctrination period, this was done to specifically destroy any tribal or familial bonds that the slaves may have had.  That had the disastrous effect of ensuring that slaves with different dialects could not communicate with each other and had no genuine affinity for those in the same plight other than they were all black.  This same behavior was employed once the slaves were introduced to life on the plantations.  Family units were constantly being destroyed by the selling of one’s children and often their mates.  I am not a social scientist but I have long suspected that the dysfunction of some black families have become predisposed to troublesome familial relationships.  But that is not the track I want to take here.

What I would like to ask is how many of you, black or white can trace your family past two or three generations?  I am fortunate that on my maternal grandmother’s side I can go back three to four generations.  In fact, she put together a report before she had her stroke that I hope to make available to my family on DVD very soon.  That has all of the elements of black, white, and Indian blood.  I’ve read that the Indian blood is highly exaggerated in most cases.  However, my great maternal grandmother was indeed half Cherokee.  She had the scalps to prove it. LOL

I want to know more about the paternal side of my family.  They were practically wiped out during the tuberculosis epidemic in Washington, D.C. during the 1940’s.  Only four of seven children survived and my paternal grandmother was not one of them yet she is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.  If only by photograph.  Human curiosity is a wonderful thing and I will continue to explore it until my dying breath.

I am not famous, nor do I suspect that The New York Times will champion my cause like they did Mrs. Obama’s.  But I would like to take that National Geographic DNA test to determine exactly where from Africa my roots lie.  But I’d also like to know where I got the name Hardy.  If he’s rich, I want my fucking inheritance.

Somebody please tell me what the fuck is going on here!  Female Force is a series of comic books put out by a publisher wo wants to educate us about strong independent women.  If I wanted to learn about strong independent women I’d take a class on the subject somewhere.  I want my comic book characters to be mutant nuclear altered ass kickers.  Okay, maybe Sarah Palin does belong in a comic book.  Hell, she may even give Katie Couric a call to let her know that she finally read something.

Michelle Obama’s Playboy Shocker!

All recent First Ladies have championed social causes.  Nancy Reagan started the war on drugs, which has been an utter failure.  I can step out my front door and order anything like it was a McDonald’s drive through window.  I just might be smoking a spliff right now.  Barbara Bush supported plastic surgeons, too bad she couldn’t find one that could help her.  And Laura Bush spoke up on behalf of women’s rights on the island nation of Lesbos.  In a stuning new developement, the Associated Mess has learned that Michelle Obama and Hugh Hefner have entered into an agreement for a series of photo shoots.

When asked what she hoped to accomplish, Ms. Obama replied “Nothing sells like sex in America and I just want to do my part to help our economy.”  Pressed further, the First Lady went on to say “We’ve entered into an agreement with Mr. Hefner that all proceeds will be donated to the national treasury.  And when you’ve got an ass like mine, the first ass I might add, we are going to sell a hell of  a lot of magazines.”

In a yet to be released press release Playboy will announce that the series will be global and available on the web.  Every second, $3,075.64 is spent on pornography.  By going global we will export enough tits and ass that soon enough, the Chinese and South Koreans will owe us fucking money.  America has been good to the porn industry and know we feel that it is time to give back to America.

On a final note, Mrs. Obama added “Not only will the pictures be tastefully done, they will be accompanied by a series of compelling articles like Why Bobby Jindal and His Caste Loving Ass Should be Deproted and How Born Again Fiscal Conservative Republicans Have Learned Their Lesson.”

Go Away Ann Coulter!

TV Ann Coulter

After watching yesterday’s inauguration festivities I was reminded of some comments made by Ann Coulter regarding Michelle Obama while peddling her new book White Trash with Nothing Relevant to Say.  That’s not the real name of the book but anything Ann Coulter says immediately makes me think of white trash!  And that’s not really being fair to white trash.

On Obama, Coulter wrote, “Her obvious imitation of Jackie O’s style – the flipped-under hair, the sleeveless A-line dresses, the short strands of fake pearls – would have been laughable if done by anyone other than a media-designated saint.”

Coulter said Cindy McCain, the wife of vanquished GOP nominee John McCain, “dressed well without freakishly imitating famous First Ladies in history.”

Coulter facetiously and snidely refers to Michelle Obama as a “saint” and “Mother Teresa” and suggests that her public service career “advanced in lockstep with the political advancement of her husband.”

I admit that I know nothing about fashion other than blue jeans go with everything and that your belt and shoes should generally be the same color.  But what I do know, Michelle Obama looked extremely chic in the outfit she wore at the swearing in ceremony and absolutely stunning in the gown at the inaugural balls.

OBAMA/

Someone should tell the emaciated pasty white skinned blowhard in the black artist smock that Michelle Obama has more style in her little finger than she will ever hope to obtain.  While you’re at it, throw in a hamburger and a session at a tanning salon!

If  you are like me, you can’t do anything in the morning until you get at least one cup of coffee in you.  So don’t you just hate it when you wake up and discover that you don’t have any coffee or half & half in the house?  Half asleep I made the trip around the corner to Winn Dixie to buy some half & half.  I really don’t like Winn Dixie because their prices are too high and the name of the store reminds me that I could have been calling someone massa and picking cotton.

As I was making my way to the checkout line I happened to glance at a magazine stand and saw this month’s edition of Essence magazine with Michelle Obama on the cover.  For the uninitiated, Essence magazine is geard towards African-American women.  What held my attention was how beautiful and elegant Michelle Obama really is.  And my first coherent thought of the day was “Black is Beautiful!”

So I got home,  put my coffee on,  and turned on the television to watch CNN Sunday Morning.  They were running one of Jeanne Moo’s pieces on the top ten mugshots of 2008.  Moos is CNN’s reporter known for her offbeat and whacky stories mostly done in the New York area.  So when she got to her number two mug shot I nearly spit out my coffee.  Remember the liquored up woman dressed up in a cow suit harassing kids?

madcow

Meet Michele Allen. The Ohio woman, 32, was arrested Saturday night after she got liquored up and began chasing kids and blocking traffic in her Middletown neighborhood. Allen was wearing a cow costume at the time of her arrest, as can be seen in the below mug shots (one of which includes a clear shot of Allen’s udder). A police report does not indicate why she was so dressed. Allen pleaded guilty yesterday to disorderly conduct and sentenced to a month in the local lockup.  http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/0930082cow1.html

What a striking contrast of images.  Images are powerful.  It’s funny how images are used.  But then again it’s not!  I’ve seen Ms. Allen’s premature Halloween mug shot on t.v. for months.  I have yet to see a story on television on the Obama piece.  Thank you Essence for a striking portrait of the future first lady.  As for the other,  it’s udderly ridiculous!

Michelle Obama’s $400 Lunch A Hoax!

Double click on receipt to enlarge.

Michelle Obama ordered $400 worth of lobster and caviar at a New York hotel.

Official-looking receipt is a fake

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/829/

A new e-mail claims to depict a $400 room service receipt signed by Michelle Obama. Guess what? It’s phony.

The e-mail is a graphic (view it here) that has an accurate quote from Obama next to her photo: “The truth is, in order get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of the pie so that someone else can have more.” Obama made the remarks on the campaign trail in North Carolina on April 8, 2008.

The e-mail then says, “Oh really? Who is the someone that gives up a piece of the pie? Keep the change!”

It then shows a receipt with the caption, “Receipt signed by Michelle Obama at Waldorf Astoria on October 15, 2008 at 4:00 p.m., $447.39 for an afternoon snack.” The receipt then lists things like whole steamed lobsters and “Iranian Osetra caviar.”

The receipt is a phony mock-up, and doesn’t even look like the receipts the hotel actually uses, said a spokeswoman for the Waldorf Astoria hotel.

Obama was not staying at the hotel, and the story is “completely made up,” the spokeswoman said. Usually, the hotel doesn’t comment at all on its guests, but was willing to deny the report in this case because it is false and “it’s escalated so much,” the spokeswoman said.

The basis for the e-mail appears to be a story that appeared Oct. 17, 2008, in the New York Post gossip column Page Six. The newspaper has since posted a correction: “The source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too.”

We’re not sure who created the e-mail, but it credits itself to PUMA PAC, a political action committee formed in the wake of Hillary Clinton’s loss to Barack Obama in the Democratic Primary. PUMA says its acronym stands for “People United Means Action,” but among Democrats its common meaning is usually thought to be “Party unity, my a–.”

PUMA posted the graphic to its Web site a few days after the New York Post story appeared, but has since retracted it. PUMA PACs’s executive director, Darragh Murphy, posted a message to the group’s Web site that states, “I sincerely regret repeating and amplifying what turns out to be a shameful attempt to embarrass and undermine Michelle Obama. I will take better care in checking sources in the future.”

So the hotel where the event was supposed to have occurred repudiates the e-mail, the newspaper that originally reported it repudiates the e-mail, and the political group that promoted it repudiates the e-mail.

Lest we be in the grips of a well-oiled conspiracy, we went back and checked on Michelle Obama’s activities on the day in question. The date and time on the receipt are Oct. 15, 2008, at 16:04, or 4:04 p.m. That day, Obama was in Fort Wayne, Ind., speaking at a rally, and was onstage speaking at about 1:30 p.m. Even a charter flight from Fort Wayne to New York would take about two hours, and we don’t think she could have rushed from the Fort Wayne event, flown to New York, checked into the Waldorf and ordered room service in that brief window of time.

So the e-mail flying around the Internet that says Michelle Obama ordered $400 of lobster and Iranian caviar is just wrong, and because it’s a mock-up based on a retracted news item, we rate it Pants on Fire!

Flipping the Race Card!

A recent Tallahassee.com. blogger took exception to Michelle Obama’s statement:  “There are 600,000 unregistered black voters in the state of Florida” at Saturday’s rally on the campus of FAMU.  I don’t know why this particular blogger took offense to these remarks and is trying to make an issue out of it.  Perhaps she harbors some resentment towards Mrs. Obama and blacks in general.  I don’t know.  I cannot presume to know what she thinks, nor do I care.  You can take what you want from her writing.

If Mrs. Obama’s statistics are correct, then I am personally shocked by the apathy of blacks to participate in the political process.  As I mentioned earlier I cannot say what people think but I feel safe in surmising that a lot of blacks feel like the political system does not work for them.   The youth in particular who did not grow up in the Civil Rights era.  I vote in every election not only because I want my voice heard but for all those who died, were beaten, were jailed, and water hosed in trying to get the right to vote.

With the emergence of Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee and the failures of eight years under President Bush, new voter registration is up exponentially across the country.  I don’t have the demographics but I bet that includes Asians, blacks, whites, Native Americans, and Hispanics.  Mrs. Obama should make that pronouncement everywhere she campaigns.  Every new Democratic voter is one step closer to overthrowing the Republican monopoly in Florida.

I encourage every one of those 600,000 unregistered black voters as well as all others to get up and go register to vote and make your voice heard.  The last day to register is October 6, 2008.  Together we can change Florida from red to blue.  And by voting you will be repaying a debt with honor!
