It never ceases to amaze me why America has such a vested interest in the state of Israel.  Maybe it is because America’s and Israel’s history have familiar parallels.  In America, white Europeans slaughtered and displaced millions of indigenous peoples on the basis of white superiority and the Christian notion of Manifest Destiny.  In Israel, hundreds of thousands of white European Jews immigrated to Palestine, under British rule, to escape the clutches of Adolph Hitler.  That, in and of itself, was a pretty smart thing to do.  But the Zionist’s were under the impression that they had a legal right to the land based on a promise from God.  And you know the rest of the story…

I could rail on about the oppressive Israeli government and I could equally rail on about the stupidity of Hamas and its delusional leaders.  For Hamas to claim a victory over Israel is akin to John McCain claiming victory Over Barack Obama.  So today, I heed the words of our newly elected president and will put away childish sentiments and thoughts.  I’ve tried to reduce the Israeli/Palestinian conflict to its lowest denominator.

These things are all ingredients to a successful peace between the two parties.  First and foremost, the equitable distribution of land must be returned to the original 1948 United Nation’s partition plan.  The Palestinian’s must accept the refusal of the right to return and that Israel has a right to exist.  A viable Jewish state must include a sizeable Jewish majority.  In return, the Jews must agree that Jerusalem is not its Capitol city and belongs to Palestine.  And lastly, the United States must end all military aid to Israel.

It’s a bitter pill that both sides have to swallow.  If not, the Palestinians will continue to live in poverty and misery.  On the Israeli side, they will always have to be their toes.  Human existence can be so simple.  Far too often we make shit harder than it has to be.  For two groups that are so intertwined and similar, they both better wake up and smell the coffee.  I shudder at the words of the late great Albert Einstein.

He said that “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”  Please!  Let’s not make him a prophet!  The conflict between fourteen million people is not worth the lives of close to five billion…

The Gaza Strip has been effectively sealed off from the rest of the world for many months, leaving stocks of surgical equipment, drugs and other essentials very low.

Among those who bore the brunt of the ferocious attack were 40 Palestinian cadets who had gathered for their passing-out parade at the police headquarters in Gaza City.

A Hamas general, who was due to take their salute, was among the pile of bodies after a massive explosion – possibly from a laser-guided bomb – tore through the parade ground where families were about to watch the ceremony.

Several of those who rushed to help the dead and injured beat their heads and shouted: ‘Allahu akbar’ [‘God is great’].

What the fuck is going on over in Gaza?  Are the Israelis trying to exact revenge on Pharaoh and Hitler at the same time?  I get that Israel has the right to defend its self but there is a striking difference in U.S supplied precision weapons and a couple of handmade bottle rockets.  And all the United States government can say is “Try not to hurt civilians,” while we are bombing the shit out of civilians in Pakistan and Afghanistan!  You’d like to think that a group that lost six million people in World War II would know something about human compassion.

But now I am going to drop some more truth on you.  If you read my post Conflict in the Middle East, you’d remember that Israel receives about a third of all American foreign aid.  Most of this aid is in the form of military aid.  What is not military aid is shifted back to the United States in the form of campaign contributions and the funding of Jewish lobbyist groups.  The most powerful lobby in America only behind the Aerospace lobby which is responsible for the weapon sales to Israel.  In retaliation to the sophisticated weapon sales to Israel, the United States is responsible for 80% of weapon sales to the rest of the Arab world trying to keep pace.

I have stated on many occasions that the United States must act as an honest broker in the peace negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians.  But the United States has a vested interest in perpetuating the conflict between the two parties, always casting the oppressed as the villains.  I only hope that you had time to view my post “Occupation 101.”

On October 3, 2001, I.A.P. News reported that according to Israel Radio (in Hebrew) Kol Yisrael an acrimonious argument erupted during the Israeli cabinet weekly session last week between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his foreign Minister Shimon Peres. Peres warned Sharon that refusing to heed incessant American requests for a cease-fire with the Palestinians would endanger Israeli interests and “turn the US against us. “Sharon reportedly yelled at Peres, saying “don’t worry about American pressure, we the Jewish people control America.”
“I want to tell you something very clear, don’t worry about American pressure on Israel, we, the Jewish people control America, and the Americans know it.”  Ariel Sharon to Shimon Peres, October 3rd, 2001, as reported on Kol Yisrael radio. There is a lot of debate as to whether this is statement is true or not.

Whether you think the statement is true or false, the following is definitely true:
— Senator Fullbright, Chair of Senate Foreign Relations Committee: 10/07/1973 on CBS’ “Face the Nation”.
“I am aware how almost impossible it is in this country to carry out a foreign policy [in the Middle East] not approved by the Jews….. terrific control the Jews have over the news media and the barrage the Jews have built up on congressmen …. I am very much concerned over the fact that the Jewish influence here is completely dominating the scene and making it almost impossible to get congress to do anything they don’t approve of. The Israeli embassy is practically dictating to the congress through influential Jewish people in the country”

That statement made over thirty years ago still rings true today.  I don’t care what side of the issue that you are on, the Palestinians must be treated as human beings.  I was very concerned when Obama went before AIPAC and basically pandered to their cause.  I only hope as President that he will have the fucking cajonnes to recognize that all people need to be treated equally.  We’ve already had genocide with the Jews, in Rwanda, and now Darfur.  We cannot let the extermination of the Palestinian people become the next victims.

Why the Terrorist’s Will Not Win!

While there is no doubt that terrorism is a shameless way to achieve political goals, we must first understand why terrorism exists in the first place.  The radical fundamentalist in the Middle East is no different than the Leaders of our country.  Old men are using the sons and daughters of others to carry out their political objectives.  What they cannot achieve across the negotiating table, they hope to do so militarily.

Anybody with an iota of common sense realizes that the root of the problem is the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians.  And what the Arab world perceives to be that Israel is in fact America’s fifty-first state.  I recently wrote a piece that America must act as an honest broker between negotiating the peace.  Negotiations are a euphemism for compromise.  Nobody gets everything they want but you get enough that you are happy to split the difference.

Like Americans, most Israelis and Palestinians trend toward the center.  Why is it that the fringes of the parties are allowed to set the agenda?  With the vast wealth of the United States being siphoned off to the oil producing states the next president should convene immediately a meeting of the prime minister of Israel and the leader of the Palestinian Authority and say this is how it’s going to be.  You have a certain number of days to produce a binding agreement or all U.S. aid is terminated immediately.  Watch how quickly an agreement is produced.

The next step is to withdraw our troops from Iraq.  It is time for the Iraqis to stand up for themselves.  After six years of training, if they cannot stand up for themselves, then they deserve whatever they get.  I did basic training in six weeks, technical school in six weeks, and finally, my secondary security specialist training in less than a month.

While it won’t be easy to achieve these things we need not be our own worst enemy in achieving our goals.  If we give other nations the chances and the means to work out their conflicts without favoring either side, those in the center will ensure that those on the fringes become less influential.  And therefore, less threatening to American interest.  When will Americans realize that our hegemony is the root of the problem?

Old White Men, Sex, and War!

I’ve conducted a semi-informal study about crotchety old white men and their propensity for making and prosecuting war.  And my research has led me to believe that there is a direct correlation between not getting any (sex) and wanting to bomb the shit out of someone.  Why do you think that the investment in male enhancement drugs is the latest rage amongst the pharmaceutical industry right now?  It’s to get people like Cheney and Bush out of the war room and into the bedroom.  Well I guess it won’t work for Cheney, with his heart, the mere idea of sex might send him on a premature trip to hell.

In 1983 Ronald Reagan invaded the tiny nation of Grenada supposedly to rescue some United State citizens attending Medical School.  Operation Urgent Fury was great success by all accounts but was it really necessary?  Besides killing a few Cubans, we were rescuing medical students training in a Third World country.  If you have to go to medical school in Grenada I sure as hell don’t want you checking out my prostate.  If Viagra had been available back then, I’m sure the Gipper would have been planning Operation Urgent Passion with Nancy as the objective.

Not to be outdone by his predecessor, in 1989 George H.W. Bush invaded that other great island superpower Panama.  Operation Just Cause was launched to dispose Manuel Noriega.  The funny thing about that is that Noriega had been on the U.S. payroll for years.  If Cialis had been available, Mr. Read My Lips, No New Taxes would have been getting it on with Barbara (paper bag over her head of course) instead of making war.  What a poor example he set for W!

During the Clinton years Bubba may have dropped a few cruise missiles on Iraq.  But he didn’t invade another sovereign nation.  With Monica Lewinsky under his desk, when did he ever have the time to think about making war?

When you compare and contrast Obama with bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran McCain it is quite clear that McCain isn’t getting any.  He may still come off as the fighter jock that he once was but he’s old and crotchety.  He needs to refill his prescription of Viagra and put a real smile on Cindy’s face.  That forced smile of hers reminds me of Jack Nicholson’s Joker in the first Batman movie.

Obama on the other hand is cool, calm, and collected.  You know why?  He’s getting sex on a consistent basis!  He’s only thinking about bombing Michelle.  Remember the fist bump when he secured the nomination?  That was code for “let’s get it on…”  Make love, not war!

The Bear and the Dragon!

Aside from this being a wonderful book by Tom Clancy published in 1991. This piece has nothing to do with literary matters.  The metaphors in the title should be obvious.  This is about Russia and China!  China’s staging of the Olympic Games announces to the world that “We’re here!”  And Russia’s invasion of Georgia screams “We’re Back!”  And what can America do about it?  Absolutely nothing!

With America’s military bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan there is no military option available.  All we get is Gorge W. Bush’s hollow rhetoric and meaningless empty threats directed at Russia.  Alexander Putin is laughing his ass off right now.  He did to Georgia what Bush did to Iraq.  I guess that W. could look into the eyes of the Devil and see something good.  At least to his credit McCain said “When I look into his eyes I see KGB!”

Meanwhile, the Chinese have spent millions, perhaps a billion dollars putting on the Olympic Games.  We have borrowed billions of dollars from the Chinese to prosecute the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. And what do we get?  Bridges falling into the Mississippi River is what.  I recently wrote a piece called The United States of China.  Just like in Texas Hold Em poker, the holder of the chips can cash in anytime he/she wants to.

It is imperative that our next president have the temperament to engage the Russians in diplomacy.  And the judgment to get our economy under control so that we can to bring down the deficit and reclaim our independence from Chinese money.  Our next president must also look forward to a renewable energy policy that stops the flow of over seven-hundred billion dollars to oil rich countries.

Our list of problems is long and it will not be an easy row to hoe.  But I know that America can do it.  In part, based on the next leader we choose.  To me the choice is an obvious one.  I’m going to go with the one who wants to do things differently.  I’ve had enough of doing it the same old way!

Hypocrisy 101

Suffering through a brief period of writer’s block I couldn’t decide on something serious or something funny to write about today.  But then our great leader along with another member of the Axis of Evil appeared on the White House Steps.  George W. Bush at the podium and Condoleezza Rice by his side commented on the ongoing clash between Russia and Georgia.  That’s the country Mr. McCain, not the state.  So there is no need for a surge in Atlanta.

With unmitigated gall, Bush lectured to Russia about its illegal invasion into Georgia.  He also stated that humanitarian aid will begin tomorrow.  We are beginning aid operations to another country faster than we did to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.  Oh and how about the invasion of Iraq Mr. Bush?  Did Mr. Putin Criticize you when you started your illegal war?  Shouldn’t you extend him the same courtesy?  After all, he is the de facto president.

You’re also dispatching Secretary Rice to France to confer with the French President before she goes on to Georgia.  So the French are no longer a collective group of wussies?  I thought you executed an executive order banning the term “french fries.”  Or do we like France again because it has a hottie for a first lady?

Anyway, for you to stand in front of the White House and lecture someone else about making war while you are currently fighting one reeks of the foul stench of hypocrisy!  You do not have the credibility to make such pronouncements.  Nor the moral authority…
